Introducing Syncplify R2FS: Reverse-Remote File System

R2FS is a secure, remote file system that eliminates the need for open inbound firewall ports, ensuring safer and more efficient file transfers.

How R2FS works

R2FS improves security by having the Virtual File System (VFS) initiate an outbound connection, eliminating the need for inbound ports.

Secure Outbound Connection

Syncplify R2FS! initiates an outbound connection to the Syncplify Server! in the DMZ, removing the need for open inbound firewall ports. This reverse connection boosts security by blocking potential threats while ensuring seamless file transfers.

Seamless Integration with Storage

Once connected, Syncplify R2FS! securely manages file transfers within the LAN, ensuring efficient and protected data flow between the client, server, and storage without disrupting workflows.

Enhanced Scalability

This setup uses a load balancer to distribute client requests across multiple Syncplify Server! nodes in the DMZ, improving scalability and ensuring redundancy for high traffic loads.

Secure Outbound Connections

Syncplify R2FS! initiates outbound connections to the server nodes, enhancing security by keeping firewall ports closed to inbound traffic while ensuring seamless access to storage.

Dual Syncplify R2FS Nodes

This setup features two Syncplify R2FS nodes in the LAN, each establishing outbound connections to the Syncplify Server! in the DMZ (red arrows). This eliminates the need for open inbound ports, enhancing security, while ensuring redundancy and uninterrupted file transfers.

Distributed Storage for High Availability

The R2FS nodes connect to a distributed or HA storage system with multiple storage nodes, ensuring data redundancy and scalability. This setup guarantees continuous file access even if one storage node fails.

Two-Way Functionality: Visualized Flow

The unique connection flow of R2FS is visually represented by the arrows in the system architecture.

Initial Connection (Green Arrow)

The VFS nodes (in the LAN) initiate the connection to the Syncplify Server! nodes (in the DMZ), ensuring that no inbound firewall ports need to be open. This is the core of R2FS's "reverse" architecture.

Data Flow (White Arrows)

Once the outbound connection is established, the roles reverse. The two sides—VFS nodes and Server! nodes—communicate bidirectionally, following the white arrows to perform their respective file transfer and storage operations.

Key Features of Syncplify R2FS

With flexible remote deployment and integration with high-availability storage, it ensures reliable file management tailored to your business needs.

Reverse Connection

Traditional file systems require open inbound firewall ports, posing a security risk. R2FS reverses this by connecting the file system outbound to the SFTP server, eliminating inbound ports and greatly enhancing security.

Remote Deployment Flexibility

R2FS enables remote deployment, simplifying file transfer management across multiple locations. Whether using a single Syncplify Server! node or a complex multi-node setup with multiple storage backends, Syncplify adapts to your needs.

High Availability and Scalability

Syncplify's R2FS integrates with distributed or high-availability (HA) storage solutions to keep your file transfers always online and scalable. Set up multiple storage nodes for redundancy and enhanced reliability.

Seamless Integration

R2FS integrates seamlessly into your existing file transfer setup, boosting security without disrupting workflows. It supports standard protocols and can be added to your SFTP environment with minimal reconfiguration or downtime.

The Benefits of Syncplify R2FS

Experience a safer, more efficient way to manage file transfers with Syncplify R2FS. Its remote deployment capability allows for efficient file management across multiple locations.

Enhanced Security

R2FS reverses the traditional connection flow, keeping firewalls closed to inbound threats while enabling seamless file transfers. The VFS nodes initiate an outbound connection, eliminating the risks of open inbound firewall ports.

Flexible Configurations

Whether you're a small business with a single server node or a large enterprise with complex architecture needs, Syncplify R2FS adapts seamlessly. From simple one-node setups to multi-node, multi-storage solutions, it offers the flexibility to configure as your business demands.

Reduced Infrastructure Complexity

Syncplify R2FS simplifies firewall management by eliminating the need for complex configurations and reducing points of failure. No more constant adjustments or risks from open ports, ensuring a more secure environment.

Optimized for Distributed Environments

R2FS integrates seamlessly with your existing infrastructure, supporting distributed or cloud-based deployments while delivering a unified and secure file system. It’s perfect for organizations with multiple remote locations or complex storage needs.

How to Set Up Syncplify R2FS

Install Syncplify R2FS

Begin by installing Syncplify R2FS in your environment, whether on a single node or in a multi-node configuration as shown in the diagram above.
